Shri Agashteshwara Temple was built beside the shores of a village called Kirimanjeshwara in Kundapura taluk, located 23km from the taluk head quarters and 59km from the district headquarters. The myth of legends says that this temple was built by saint Agastya, and this temple has divine weed from the presence of gods and it has 7 theerthas they are Ganapati, Skanda, Parvati, Vishalakshi, Laxmi Narayana, Kere Katte Anjaneya, Naga.
The mythology says that the sage Agastya who came south after visiting Vindhyachal worshipped god Mahabaleshwara of Gokarna and headed south again... It has been included in the chapters 76 & 77 of the Skanda Purana that on the good day of new moon of star Adra, after bathing in the place called Nagapura (present Kirimanjeshwara) and then he installed Shiva Linga in the same place and started worshipping it, by all these actions Lord Shiva blessed and resided in the Linga.
